Favourite "Christmas Present"

Zen received a few Christmas presents but the one that he enjoys the most is this rubbery bouncing toy that have blinking lights when hit. You know, those that you can find in the pasar malam (night market). And it's not even supposed to be a Christmas present. SIL was at the pasar malam when she saw this little toy and thought Zen would love it! Oh, he's so easily pleased! Come to think of it, most of Zen's toys are everyday household items eg pots and pans, plastic bottles, bags, plastic containers etc... looks like we can save $ on toys! hahahaha! ... well, at least until he realises the "value" of a shop-bought toy!

the rubbery toy...

the rubbery toy when hit... lights up in red

... and green... and there it goes...

Year-End Bug Attack

Hubby's sick... got the bug it seems.. sigh, poor thing. He's having high fever and sore throat (though he said he didn't feel much pain there). It's so not fun to be sick when everyone is having parties and dinners and well, in the holiday mood. We went to a house warming dinner last night with my parents-in-law which hubby had to skip. And he had been wanting to go.

Zen seemed to sense that daddy is not feeling well and is especially attached to hubby. I mean, he doesn't want me to carry him and kept running with his arms out stretched to daddy. Every time hubby goes out of his sight, he would cry out and start looking for daddy. It would have been a very cute sight, if only hubby wasn't sick and having all those muscle pain. And we were afraid too, that Zen might catch the bug. Hoping hubby gets well real soon...

Christmas Dinner

BIL treated us Christmas dinner on the eve at a Chinese restaurant. Food was pretty good but the highlight of the dinner was "sauna prawns", at least I think that was they called this dish. They brought a pot with fresh prawns to us and then performed the "cooking" on the table besides us. First they pour some alcohol onto the prawns and then light a fire over it. I think that was what happened coz I didn't see this part as Zen was being curious too and I had to look after him instead. Immediately, the waitress close the pot's lid and there was this blanket of smoke (steam was too gentle to describe it!) coming out from the dish! The pot's lid could have been blown up too if the waitress didn't push it shut with a fork!

How's that for a Christmas show!?! And the prawns? Yummy, really fresh too (^O^)

The star of the dinner...

"Oh, these are yummy..."
"Use a spoon? What spoon?"

Santa's Little Elf

Hubby's department had a Christmas party the other day and we were invited. Yippee! Now that Zen is older, he gets to enjoy these gatherings / party more. And we don't have to worry about having to leave the party right after it has just begun, like we used to when Zen was younger (in order to be home by his bedtime).

Hey, what's Doraemon doing here?!

oohhhhh... it's the lil kiddo dressed in his Christmas present!

"Were you a good boy / girl this year?
Okie, I give you these...
Huh, you want cash instead?
Oh, in that case you will need to wait till mummy strikes the lottery!"

Merry Christmas!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

EVERYONE!

LOTS OF LOVE,
ZEN &

DADDY

Pictures Perfect

Remember I mentioned I sent Zen's pictures to eoe online for printing last Friday? I've gotten the photos back yesterday (Tuesday) which is super fast I think. And they did such a nice job too. Some of the pictures were taken by my handphone camera and were not very sharp but the outcome was great. I so love it!

I must admit that initially I was bit wary of the quality. You see, we had a bad experience once when we had over 100 digital-camera-pictures printed and the quality was poor! The pictures turned out so dull and we suspect the photo shop assistant didn't do a proper job in mixing the colours into the printer prior to printing. And of course, they didn't do any sales recovery eg giving discount or re-printing.

But now, my faith in printing digital pictures are restored thanks to eoe online! Not only did I save time, I've got quality pictures too. Wanna see what we've got?

Latest Casualty

Headline: Our little demolition boy claimed his latest victim!

The victim: Our vacuum flask
Story: Bought it for my dad when he was admitted into hospital last time. It wasn't very expensive but it worked real good ie water was still pretty hot after 24 hours. Took it out the other day to have it rinsed and the lil kiddo got hold of it and decided to test how strong it was by throwing it across the kitchen floor!

Outcome: What it looks like after the glass (or something like that) got smashed to pieces! sigh...

Opps! Wrong House!!

We had a get together with some good friends over the weekend. The place was at our friend's new condo. So it was a potluck get together cum house warming. And since there's a swimming pool at her place, she invited us to drop by earlier for Zen to have a dip! So we happily pack everything. And by everything I meant the food, Zen's float (already blown), a huge knapsack with everyone's change of clothes and towels. I don't blame anyone for thinking we were going on a 5 days trip!

Anyway, we found our way to her condo without any problem. Parked the car and gotten all our stuff and went up to her floor. Reached her unit and pressed the doorbell. And pressed and pressed and pressed... But no one came out so hubby called and our friend said she was in but didn't hear any doorbell ringing! Thinking her doorbell was broken, we asked her to open her door and we waited but no one came out!!! *cue twilight zone music* This was when she told us we went to the wrong block!!

You see, there were 2 blokes there and we went to the wrong one! hahahaha! Apparently, we were not the only ones. Seems that last week, her friend too went to the same unit we went to! The difference was that the owner of the "wrong" unit was at home during that time and he opened the door and that friend just walked in asking for our mutual friend!! That owner is a Korean and I guess he must be wondering how weird we Malaysians are!! hahaha... We were thinking he may have been at home when we rang the doorbell but was too scared to open the door when he peeped through the peeping hole and saw us with so many bags and stuff and a kid!!! That was so funny and we laughed till our tummies ache!!!!

"oohhhh mummy, this is a nice house.. can we move in?"

Shopping Mall Fun

We were at the shopping malls over the weekend. Last minute Christmas shopping! And still haven't gotten all the presents yet. Dunno what to get for my FIL.... hmm, any suggestion? (^O^)

Anyway, Zen's having a great time at the malls. Now that he's older, he's very aware of his surroundings and do you know what's his favorite part of going to the mall? The escalator! I have read from other blogger mummies about their kids wanting to go onto the escalator non-stop and had been dreading that day when Zen does that. Well, THAT day had come! Gosh, you should see him cry and twist his back when we said "enough"! Sigh... *still dizzy from going up and down the escalator*

looks like he's "scaring" all the other shoppers huh?! LOL!

Zen: "vroom... vroom... oh, mummy, this came off!"
*passes steering wheel to mummy!*
Mummy: "Arghhh! Quick, stick it back before the lady sees it!"
Note: the steering wheel did come off but the person in charge
said it was already broken earlier.. phew!

Photos Printing Made Easy!

I have read about so many bloggers using eoe online photo printing that I'm so so so tempted to give it a try! Especially now that they are having a promotion. It was so simple. Just upload the photos for printing and they will do the rest. Imagine not needing to leave the house and the photos will be printed and delivered to you! Initially I just couldn't believe it... so I called them up to inquire. Yes, I did.. hehe... Spoke to a really nice lady (forgot to ask her name in my excitement!) and she said yes, they are having some promotions and contest and yes, it was that simple! One of the promotions is 4R print at RM0.30 only! And you know what?! I have just uploaded 50 of Zen's photo for printing! And now I can't wait to receive them!

I had been wanting for the longest time to print Zen's photo, more so when I read about some bloggers' PC went kaput and also when hubby's laptop was stolen and all data stored were gone just like that! I guess that's the "down" side of a digital camera. We tend to shoot a lot and then storing them and not printing, at least that's how I am. The only reason I had was that it was too much trouble to save them into a pendrive and going to the print shop to have them printed and then go back once again to collect them! Yeah, am one lazy mum! hahahaha!

So glad someone came up with this idea. You know what, the spirit of giving is alive!

KungFu Zen

In about one and a half month's time, it'll be Chinese New Year! Yippee! And have we bought the clothes yet? Well, hubby and I don't plan to buy for ourselves but instead will wear the ones that we already have. I mean, we seldom get to wear these clothes and it seems a waste to let them sit in the wardrobe all the time, right?

hubby's...

mine...

But for Zen, it'll be a different story! hahaha! I remember when I was young, I always go shopping with my mum for new clothes for Chinese New Year and I really enjoyed those times. It was great mummy & daughter bonding times. And getting the new clothes were absolutely wonderful too. The other members of my family being males, were quick to make excuses to wait for us at the bookshops or electrical goods shop or even the foodcourt! hahaha!!

Now that I'm a mother, I find that looking for clothes for kids is no easy task! Especially when it's for a boy. You know what I mean... Sure, there are lots of choices out there but most boys' clothes designs are... well, not that exciting. Not until I saw Mumsgather's post. And do you know what kind of boy's clothing we have in mind for Zen? A DOMII kung-fu shirt!! And what's more, there's a contest over at Mumsgather's blog so do go over and try your luck or better still pop over to DOMII at The Curve. :-)

our kungfu boy!
(this isn't one of Zen's nicest picture but hubby and I
always laughed when we see it! Zen was about 5 months old then)

a cute kingfu shirt for our lil kungfu boy!
sure matches hubby's shirt, doesn't it? *grin*

Burnt Porridge

I burnt zen's porridge the other day... *so sad* Was making his lunch on the stove and while waiting for it to cook, I decided to let zen take his shower (he poo-ed). I had quite a lot of water in it and it was over slow fire so I thought it would be alright.

But after Zen's shower, I totally forgotten about it. I didn't smell the burning as we have a door between the kitchen and the rest of the house. That was so absent-minded of me, not to mention dangerous! Sigh, am getting old.

Good thing hubby wanted to get something from the kitchen and just as he walked into the kitchen, he thought the aliens had landed, with all the smoke and smell!

Zen Off To University!

Hahaha, not for another 18 years or so! But he was at a university last weekend. Hubby had some work related matters at the university and Zen and I decided to tag along. (^o^)

It was an Open Day at the university and there were many booths providing information about the many courses they offer. I could see the more popular booths being IT, hospitality and creative arts. Hmmm, during my time, business studies / accounting were THE course to take! I must be getting old! hahahaha....

It seemed many moons ago that I was a student and walking into that university (though it was not mine) brought back many fond memories. I made many great friends and still keep in touch with them till today. And one is also my blogger friend too!! hahaha!

Zen insisted to carry that plastic bag with brochures that we were given

Highway Romance

Was on the highway today and saw something interesting. *grin* Was behind this car which was going at 80km/h and hogging the fast lane. And even when he was not overtaking any cars, he insisted on remaining on the fast lane. Usually, I get quite upset with drivers like this and will put on my signal light or flash my headlights a bit to indicate that I would like to move on with my life if they don't mind. I mean I would like to get to my destination sometime today!

But was feeling kinda nice today (read: Zen was in good mood so that makes me a happy mummy) and decided to just tail this car. Anyway, there wasn't any cars behind me at breakneck speed so no pressure from behind. And guess what I saw!? The reason for the "safe" driving was because the passenger on the left, a female (btw, ours are right-hand drive cars on the left side of the road, in case you weren't aware) was getting real cosy with the driver! I could see them leaning against each other and the female's head on the driver's shoulder! At one point, I think they even kissed! If we were any nearer, I would have to block Zen's eyes! hahaha....

After awhile they exited the highway and that was the end of my show. Hope they reached their destination safely!

Argh! The Furniture Moved

Nowadays, when hubby comes home from work, he will sometimes come back to a slightly different house from the one he left in the morning! Nope, it's nothing eerie, it's just our son's into moving furniture these days... *rolled eyes*

Zen's cabinet (original position)

Apparently, the lil guy thinks this is not good fung shui so he's moving it!
Speaking of cabinet, when we got this plastic cabinet before Zen was born, I used to feel that we made a bad choice as the drawers were very tight and I needed both hands to open them ie one hand to pull the drawer and the other to hold onto the cabinet. It was a DIY so we couldn't test it before purchasing. Now, am glad it's tight because Zen is not strong enough to open those drawers! hehehehehehehe...

On Off On Off On Off

Zen learned a new trick lately and he's so excited & proud over it that he repeatedly does it! He found that he can make things disappeared, more specifically the pictures on the TV!

Yes, he realised that when he pressed on that on-off button on the TV, he can control the pictures! So he's been doing that whenever the TV is on. And he enjoys switching it off than on. Arghhh!! How do I ever teach him not to do so?

Oh, talking about switches, he's very into remote controls too! Once he gets hold of a remote control especially for the auto gate at MIL's house, he'll open and close the gate non-stop. Try taking the remote control from him (or even bargaining it with his favorite toy), he'll lie on the floors and scream! sigh...

Theft

Hubby's office was broken into early yesterday morning and almost all of his department's laptops were stolen! Not sure what else were taken but I think laptops are easier to take and disposed of. The thieves were really daring because hubby's company have guards 24 hours.

Hubby's pretty upset over the incident. Actually so am I. You see, hubby had some personal things in that laptop eg our pictures and personal information. Good thing he didn't have passwords or banking information saved in his laptop! But still, it's not a very nice feeling knowing that our personal information are out there and that it may fall onto the wrong hands...

And his new (well, not that new since it was released in Japan in July this year) anime is titled "Ponyo (pronounced Po-Nyo) On the Cliff By The Sea". Am so looking forward to this *grinning like a child* The trailer looks so cute!

Oishi Desu!

We went for Japanese buffet dinner at Shogun in 1-Utama recently. In case you are wondering how's the food, google for it and you will find lots of review already done on this place. My 2-sen worth? Was alright, they have a very good spread but some of the sushi and sashimi were not as fresh as those authentic Japanese restaurants. Actually hubby already "warned" me so but since I had never been there and I'm sure Zen wanted to try it out too... (what do you mean I'm using Zen as an excuse?! *grin*) we decided to have dinner there.

But one thing we noticed was the different way hubby and I "attack" the buffet table!

my first round....
there would have been sashimi on this plate too
if it wasn't this full when I reached the sashimi section

hubby's first round...
that's fried soft shell crab, tempura prawns, can't recall what's the other one
but it definitely was one of those fried stuff

our common favorite, nabe...
Subsequent rounds were not shown because no pictures were taken. Juggling between our own food and feeding Zen and pulling him back into his seat and entertaining him is not easy!

PS: most of my pictures recently has been pretty blur ya? sigh, my phone's camera not that high tech (^-^)

Smoked BKT For Breakfast

BKT as in bak kut teh, literally translated as "meat bone tea", somewhat a popular dish in this part of the world. In case you would like to know more about this dish, you can check it here. Gee, Wikipedia is beginning to be one of my favorite websites. (^o^)/

Anyway, we went for BKT for breakfast over the weekend to this restaurant that hubby wanted to try. I guess it was pretty good judging from the crowd and the aroma even before we got into the restaurant. It was so crowded that you have to share table with strangers. For the benefit of readers from other parts of the world... it's sometimes acceptable for the diners to share tables depending on the type of restaurants, usually those eat-and-go coffee shops. But we were lucky to be able to get a table to ourselves. But the luck didn't last long.

Just as we were digging into our BKT, the lady boss came and asked if there were "only" the 3 of us and we said yes. She then went off and directed a couple of guys to our table. We didn't mind them sharing the table. That was until one of them took out a pack of cigarettes and offering it to his friend. And both of them started puffing away while they wait.

Now, I usually don't mind if one wants to smoke. I mean it's their body and they have every right to determine what color their lungs should be. Normally I'll just try to get my food out of their way. But I would think it's polite to refrain from smoking when someone else are eating in the same table, especially when there's a child too!
