I had not done a blood test for almost three years so I thought I should get one done. The last one I did was wayyy back in 2008. So during the Raya holidays, hubby took me to BP Clinical Lab for a blood test. the one I did in 2008 was at Pathlab but they didn't open during holidays so I decided to try BP. This time I opted for the "machine test" too. Machine test included ultrasound scan, ECG, lungs test and also for osteoporosis.
As it was the holidays, I could only draw my blood for the test. Had to make another appointment for the machine test and consultation. Since I could only go on Saturdays when hubby is available to take care of the kids, I had to wait till more than 2 weeks after that day for my appointment.... with Saturdays being their super-peak day and all.
But I didn't want to wait so long for the blood test results so I went back a couple of days to get the results. The "only" abnormalities were low white blood count (probably because I just recovered from flu), slightly high on LDL - Cholesterol (which the nurse assured me was ok but should take care of my diet) and a higher than average total bilirubin count. This was the one that gave me sleepless nights. The nurse who handed me the report told me that it could be because I ate too much "yellow colored" food eg carrot, sweet potato, papaya etc which was partly true. You can read more about bilirubin here. Basically, this is what causes jaundice in babies and in an adult, a high count can sometimes mean there is a problem somewhere.
Since both my parents passed away due to cancer though in my mum's case, it was highly suspected that she contacted the Hep C virus from blood transfusion back in the 80s... I am, medically speaking, a time bomb. So when I saw that my total bilirubin was high, my body's alarm bells went off. I googled for it, went to a GP to ask for her opinion and spoke to my friends. Which was why this blog was left untouched for some time... sorry... Most of the researches that I did and the people that I spoke to assured me that there's nothing too serious about it but the 2 weeks wait till I get to do the ultrasound scan was a torture.

Yes, waiting can be a torture sometimes...
I totally understand how you feel, because I am a time bomb myself. My dad's side of the family, including my dad, died of heart attack.
While my mother fought with cancer 3 times in her life over a period of 20 years.
Take care dear, frequent such checks is good! *smile*
ok update me in part 2. Don't make so suspend!
