I remembered when I was first started working in KL more than a decade ago. I was both excited and anxious. I was finally going to be independent and earning my own pay and staying up as late as I wanted to and going out with whom I choose too!! muahahaha...

Initially I stayed at my cousins' house but it was a bit out of the way to my workplace. I needed to take 2 buses to get to work and the total journey takes between 1 - 2 hours. I was not one of those fortunate ones who was given a car when I started work but I think I managed well. :-) So everyday, I had to spend almost 2 - 4 hours trying to get to office or home. I am almost always exhausted by the time I reached home and had spent most of my weekends in bed trying to catch up with sleep. So much for staying up late and going out!

After a couple of months, I decided to move out and nearer to my workplace. And so everyday I was going through the newspaper's classifieds looking for rooms to let. And weekends were spent going to all the housing estates around my office looking for room to rent. During those times, many "rooms to let" advertisements were pasted on conveniences stores and mini markets.

There was no online service back then compared to now. These days, looking for rooms to rent is as simple as logging onto rooms for rental website. There are literally tens of thousands of rooms to be let listed here. Master bedrooms or single rooms, with or without cooking facilities, is internet available? All these descriptions comes with the advertisement making it easy for tenants to choose.

It is pretty user friendly as the rooms are categorized into states and "hot locations". All one has to do is narrow down to the state or location that one is keen on and start searching for the criteria and budget that fits. Therefore, a soon-to-graduate student in Penang can start looking for rooms to rent in Petaling Jaya without needing to travel all the way there.

This way also allows comparison which works well for the tenant. One can compare which house owner provides the best facilities at the lowest price in the same location. Very convenient indeed.
